The Spiece Run N Slam kicked off on Friday night. Here is a look at the top performances we saw on the first night of action.
Trevon Bluiett, shooting guard (Spiece 17U)
Bluiett continued to play where he left off the past two weekends on the Nike EYBL circuit. The thick-bodied shooting guard is a physical wing that plays with pace and patience. He lets the game come to him. Bluiett is a great perimeter shooter off the bounce and in the catch and shoot. The junior has a quick release and good form. Bluiett also is solid off the bounce getting in the lane and getting to the charity stripe. The highly touted wing finished with 21 points.
JaQuan Lyle, point guard (Spiece 17U)
Lyle had another quality effort. The physically imposing point guard showed off his entire game. He has great vision and feel for the point guard position. The Bosse High School star can simply make passes that others can’t. He was getting in the lane, making plays attacking the paint, and finishing at the hoop. Lyle also knocked down a couple perimeter shots including a transition three he pulled up for. He went for 18 points.
Michael Finke, power forward (Peoria Irish 17U – Committed to Illinois)
Finke had a quality outing against a talented front line for Team Thad including Leron Black. The Illini commit is a skilled four that is great in the pick and pop. He can really shoot it from the mid-range consistently. He also displayed a good passing feel for finding his fellow bigs and forwards. Finke runs the floor great and was solid on the glass. He went for 21 points.
Chris Chiozza, point guard (Team Thad 17U)
The Team Thad point guard is one of the fastest rising prospects in the Midwest. Chiozza is a lead guard that is great attacking the hoop and getting in the paint. He is fast with the ball in his hands and makes good decisions setting up his teammates. With Leron Black limited this junior helped lead his team to a win over the Irish. Chiozza went for 17 points and 10 dimes.
Joey Morlan, shooting guard (Spiece 16U)
Morlan is one of the best pure shooters we have seen on the 16U level this spring. The sophomore sharpshooter was on fire in the first half. He recorded 18 first half points on six triples. Morlan would go on to finish with 21 points. He is a great catch and shoot guy with a quick release that is not afraid to let it go.
