Austin Colbert Breaks Down Illini Verbal

Illinois has landed their power forward in the 2013 class on Monday as they picked up a commitment from Gill St. Bernards (NJ) Austin Colbert.  The athletic four man fits into what the Illini do on both ends of the floor.  He told us why he chose Illinois.

“Illinois has a great program.  I think that Coach Groce and Coach Ford really have the best interest for me.  I think they have a great plan going forward into the future.”

He built a close relationship with his lead recruiter assistant Dustin Ford throughout the process.

“I like that he is really laid back and is a good coach.  He is going to be my position coach.  He knows what he is talking about.  He is a hard worker and I know he is going to push me every day.”

Colbert is excited to make an immediate impact next season and thinks highly of the Illini’s system.

“If I work hard Coach Groce said there is a strong chance I will get a lot of minutes early on as a freshman.  He said we run a lot of plays through our forwards.  It seems like a great fit.  I am looking forward to winning.  I am looking forward to working hard every day and showing everybody what we can do.”

He says off the court Illinois was the right fit for him too.

“They have the second largest alumni network in the country with life after basketball.”

Colbert rounds out the Illini class nicely with the addition of the top 100 talent.  They have all five positions on the floor covered with point guard Jaylon Tate, shooting guard Kendrick Nunn, small forward Malcolm Hill, Colbert at power forward, and Maverick Morgan as the center.
