Chicago Orr Punches Ticket To State

Orr and North Chicago promised to be an exciting up-tempo game with a lot of high-level athletes.  It got off to a great start as Louis Adams drilled a three for Orr followed by one for North Chicago’s Javairius Amos-Mays.  Orr junior power forward Marlon Jones had a couple of nice post ups that ended in buckets.  The game was tied at 14 all after one quarter.  Kurt Hall had a big second quarter attacking the hoop and playing his very aggressive game.  He was dominating the paint and glass.  Behind the hot shooting of Louis Adams, Orr took a 31-28 lead into the half.

The pressure defense from Orr was a problem for North Chicago in the third quarter.  They got steals and got out on the break.  Orr held a 45-35 margin heading into the final quarter.  They took it to another level in the fourth.  Marlon Jones and Tyquone Greer dominated on the interior while Jamal McDowell was dropping dimes left and right.  They cruised to a 63-49 victory and a trip to Peoria.

Junior power forward Marlon Jones is one of the most intriguing post prospects in the 2014 class.  He has a long and athletic frame that he uses on both ends of the floor.  Jones finished strong around the basket in this one.  He also rebounded at a high-level and swatted shots.  The talented junior went for 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Tyquone Greer led them in the scoring department with 16 points as well as 10 rebounds.  This big time athlete is getting back to being healthy and is showing his immense potential.  He will be the key for them to win it all in Peoria.  If he plays like he did Tuesday they can go all the way.  His junior running mate Louis Adams is an athletic shooting guard that continues to impress.  He is a plus perimeter shooter that is a momentum changer.

Senior point guard Jamal McDowell has had a very solid year and played great on Tuesday.  He is a thick and physical floor general that can dish it and get everyone involved.  McDowell will also get his when given the opportunity.  He is a great perimeter defender.  The senior went for 10 points and 8 assists.

For North Chicago Kurt Hall played like a grown man!  The rugged forward plays with a great deal of intensity and attacks the hoop.  He is improving his handle and even hit a mid-range jumper.  Hall is a beast on the boards on both ends of the floor.  He went for 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Their guard duo of JayQuan McCloud and Javairius Amos-Mays both had their moments.  McCloud is a smooth shooting guard that can handle the ball and can score.  He finished with 13 points.  Amos-Mays is an elite level athlete at the two guard that is a plus jump shooter.  He couldn’t consistently get his offense going as he ended the season with 8 points and 5 boards.

Orr will now face a Cahokia squad that mirrors them in many ways in the 3A Final Four on Friday.
