Austin Pauga Having Breakout Spring

A player that broke out at the Hoosier Jamfest during the live period was IMG Academy 2014 shooting guard Austin Pauga.  The 6’5” junior is a good athlete with nice strength.  His best attribute is his shot which he can get off extremely quick.  He is a plus three point shooter and also pulls up from mid-range.  Pauga showed a high basketball IQ and was a quality passer.

He runs on the circuit with Mercury Elite who made it to the Hoosier Jam championship game.  Pauga was a major reason why.  This past season the Naperville native transferred to IMG Academy in Florida.  He feels it has improved his game.

“I really like it so far.  We wake up at 7:30 AM and then we lift for an hour and a half.  Then we practice for two hours and then go to school.  If you really like basketball it is probably the best place to be.”

How has the transition gone to playing at the Florida power?

“It went pretty good.  The first couple games were a transition, but I am really starting to get in the flow of things down there.”

Pauga discussed what type of player he is.

“I would say I am more of a shooting guard.  I like to shoot the three, but I also like to get to the basket.”

A few schools have reached out to the junior.

“I have heard from George Mason, Northern Illinois, Wright State, and Ball State.”

He says he has visited one school close to home unofficially.

“I have taken a visit to NIU.  I really like their weight room.”

What is the talented wing looking for in a school?

“I am looking for playing time.  Everybody wants to be a star, but I just want to get on the court.  I just want to find a school that is a good fit for me.”
