Whitney Young 2016 small forward Skyler Nash is among the very best prospects in the state in his class. The explosive wing is great attacking the hoop with his strength and athleticism. As the circuit progressed he really improved his perimeter shooting running with the Illinois Wolves 15U.
Nash will be given a great opportunity this season to learn from a trio of the state's best seniors while playing for one the nation's top teams. After putting his name on the radar of college coaches in the spring and summer he is starting to take some visits.
Thursday he took an unofficial to DePaul and discussed with us how it went.
"We came in and first met with all the coaches, met all the players, then watched practice. Afterwards we met with Coach Purnell in his office, watched some film, talked about my game, and the season. Then met with the academic adviser who walked us around campus and the neighborhood. Finally we came back and met with all the coaches watched some more film, got to know each other more, and discussed the school and the program."
What aspects of the Blue Demons stand out to him?
"I really like that Coach Purnell focuses on developing his players individually and the staff as a whole seem really down to earth and easy to work with. They all seem genuinely invested in the well being of their players not just as athletes, but as people. The programs history is appealing with guys like Q Rich, George Mikan, and Mark Aguirre. Plus the fact that it's in Chicago is really appealing to me."
Nash said the DePaul coaches like his versatility as a prospect. He is one to watch in the rising sophomore class.
