Dunlap High School 2014 power forward Alex Sorenson continues to be one of the most underappreciated prospects in the state of Illinois. The four man played on the circuit with the Peoria Irish throughout his prep career. He is a pick and pop big man that can knock down mid-range face up jumpers and his range stretches out to three.
Sorenson has shown consistent development in his back to the basket game over the last two years. He has become a good scorer on the block with a soft touch and showed he could finish with some power in July. He also continues to display improvement sealing his man off and receiving the ball.
With added strength he has also progressed as a rebounder and post defender. An underrated part of his game is his ability to pass from the block and out of the high post. Sorenson discussed his final run on the circuit with us.
“I think I had a good spring. The first two weekends of July I struggled a little bit. The last weekend I think I came out and got my game back and played well.”
What areas does he feel he has seen the greatest growth since last high school season?
“One thing I have really been trying to improve is scoring in the post. I think I showed I have come a long way. Also I am working on hitting the weights so I can be more of a banger, rebounding, and blocking shots.”
Some of the schools that have talked with the rising senior include North Dakota, Wisconsin Parkside, Truman State, St. Leo, South Dakota State, Colgate, Grand Valley State, Liberty, North Central, and Weseyan. He is one of the better power forwards left on the board in the state.
