There are a lot of quality point guards in the rising junior class. St. Charles East point guard Cole Gentry is one of the more underrated floor generals in that group. He is a pure point guard that has a tremendous feel for the game. Gentry gets in the lane and finds his teammates.
The St. Charles East junior is solid knocking down runners and has potential as a shooter. In general he is just a great leader. Wednesday Gentry took an unofficial visit to Longwood. He discussed what he did on the visit.
“Arrived this morning, met with assistant Andy Farrell, and then he presented me with the vision. As a first year staff they had an incredible plan to be successful in the next few years. Then we went to the coach’s office and watched a video on the coach and team from last year. We met with their strength and conditioning coach, walked around campus, and met with their academic advisor to talk about what their academics looked like.”
What stood out about their staff?
“The plan they had for the program. They ‘study’ the success of other programs and make their players also study why teams are successful. They were all very committed and bought in to the program Coach Gee was implementing.”
The Longwood coaches expressed to Gentry what impressed them about him.
“First off that I’m a good student and then what I can do with the ball offensively dribbling, passing, and shooting.”
Gentry was sidelined with an injury during the summer, but expect him to continue to build on what he did as a sophomore this upcoming season.
