Michigan hosted a pair of the state’s top 2016 recruits over the weekend. One of the duo was Whitney Young shooting guard Skyler Nash. The athletic and explosive wing has one of the highest ceilings of any prospect in his class in the state.
Nash is great attacking the basket and is a high flyer in transition. During the summer he showed improvement in his skill set and perimeter game including a more consistent jump shot. The Illinois Wolves 15U wing also displayed potential on the defensive end with his athleticism and strength.
Over the weekend Nash took an unofficial visit to Michigan. He discussed the Wolverines visit with us.
“My mom and I met with Coach Jordan at the practice facility and he took us on a tour of the whole place. The locker room, coaches office, the weight room, and other areas. Then we walked down the tunnel and he just showed me how it looks with all the lights turned off and the blue lights flashing. We walked on the court and kind of just took that in. Then went to meet up with the team and Barret (Benson) on the roof for the tailgate. We all walked down to the stadium and onto the field for the pregame workouts. Then sat right behind the sideline for the game.”
Nash talked about what impressed him on the visit.
“I think #1 their collective commitment to core values. They really focus on developing players as people which is really nice. I think #2 would just be the atmosphere that surrounds their sports. Just walking into the Big House with 112,000 people was crazy. All their fans are committed to the university. I mean they were stopping Barret and I too talk and take pictures. It just seems like a great place to be.”
The Wolverines coaches like what Nash brings to the table as a young prospect.
“They just said they liked my versatility as a big guard. My ability to score from anywhere on the court, but also facilitate. They made it clear Coach Beilein doesn’t offer until after sophomore year, but that they would come down to Whitney Young for open gym and come to some games. They just want to keep in constant contact which I like.”
Next up for Nash will be a visit to Purdue on September 14.
