Rockford Lutheran 6’3” shooting guard Thomas Kopelman impressed during July with his Rockford Ambassadors 17U squad.
He lit up the GRBA National Championships the final weekend of the evaluation period. Kopelman is a plus shooter that has a quick first step getting by his man. Overall he has a nice feel for the game and is a quality passer for an off guard.
We caught up with him to see how he felt it went on the circuit with the Rockford Ambassadors.
“AAU season went pretty good. We won a couple gold brackets. We had a pretty good season.”
The senior talked about the development in his game.
“I was seen more as a shooter during my freshman and sophomore year. After that I got in the gym and really got my ball-handling down and my shot on the move. That is the main thing I have been working on. I was pretty skinny before this summer. I put on 20 pounds from lifting. My athleticism and vertical has gone up.”
He has official visits set up to St. Leo on September 21 and Minnesota State in early October. Minnesota State, Lindenwood, and St. Rose Albany are expected to do in home visits. Dartmouth, New Hampshire, Yale, and Chicago State are also showing the guard interest.
What will be important in a school for him?
“Main thing is where I fit in best. I am really looking for good coaches and when I go there to see how interested the coaches are.”
