One player that has been garnering a lot of buzz during fall workouts and open gyms is De La Salle junior Karl Harris. The explosive 2015 prospect is showing some ability to distribute the ball in addition to what he can do scoring and with his length on the defensive end.
We caught up with Harris to see how the fall has gone for him.
“Open gyms have been extremely competitive. I’ve been playing a lot of point and guarding our point guard. Me and Brandon (Hutton) have been guarding each other full court. Putting on shows!”
Harris has always been looked at as more of a slasher and scorer, but has opened coaches’ eyes with his ability to distribute the basketball.
“Playing point guard I feel like I have an advantage over my opponent with my size and I feel that I’m a good passer. I make good decisions which opens up easy buckets for me whenever I see the opportunity. Also being a combo makes you have to be more vocal in a leadership role. That I will have to do this year.”
The junior is looking forward to taking his momentum from July with the Illinois Stars and the fall into his high school season with De La Salle.
“I want to pick up where I left off and keep turning heads by getting wins. Winning is all that’s on my mind.”
Currently he only has one offer from St. Francis (PA), but the interest is starting to pick up in a major way.
“I’m hearing a lot from West Virginia, Northern Illinois, Wright State, Xavier, and Valpo. All want to recruit me as a point guard and Valpo as a combo.”
Harris will be taking visits to several schools including Northern Illinois October 12, West Virginia October 18, and Wright State October 20.
