Decatur St. Teresa junior shooting guard Christian Williams elevated his play during the spring and summer with the Peoria Irish. He is a two guard with good size and the ability to score both getting to the basket and with perimeter shooting. In a class that’s strength is the two guard position Williams is one of the best.
This past weekend he took an unofficial visit to Iowa and spoke with us about his time on campus.
“I was able to go to the football game until halftime. Then we went around to see the different facilities and buildings their students use. Then I was able to watch practice.”
What stood out about the Hawkeyes during the trip?
“Their coaching staff and how they run their team.”
The visit was an opportunity for Williams to get to know the Iowa coaches better.
“I liked how they approached a player and talked to them after they made a mistake in practice. We talked about their system and what they expected.”
The Hawkeyes staff is very impressed with the young guard.
“They said they like how I can play multiple positions. They said they like that I am able to shoot, dribble, pass, and make smart decisions. They are impressed how well I can run the floor and able to make plays.”
While he is a tremendous player on the court he is lighting it up on the gridiron as a quarterback this fall leading his team to a great season while playing spectacular football.
“It is pretty exciting. We came in this year with a not so good record last year with the mindset to dominate. I have a good line who does a great job blocking for me and I also have good receivers who can catch the ball and make plays.”
