With the top players coming off the board on a daily basis we thought we would take a look at a few of the top available prospects at each position.
The point guard spot already has four prospects off the board in Tyler Ulis (Kentucky), Larry Austin (Tennessee), Marcus Bartley (St. Louis), CJ Rivers (Drake), and CJ Carr (SIU-Edwardsville). There are still many talented lead guards left on the board that are potential DI prospects.
Jontrell Walker (West Aurora)
The 6’0” point guard is a plus scorer as he can really shoot it from behind the three point line especially when he is left open. He has a quick release. Walker is also pretty good off the bounce getting to the hoop and finishes well around the basket. The junior works well around screens both going to the hoop and finding teammates where he is a solid passer.
Dedric Byrd (Champaign Centennial)
Byrd had a nice close to the summer with a big weekend for the Peoria Irish at the GRBA National Championships. The senior lead guard makes solid decisions with the rock in his hands. He is quick off the dribble and is good attacking the basket. Byrd is a plus pressure defender at the top of the key.
Torry Johnson (Morgan Park)
Johnson is a sharp shooter that has a knack for hitting key shots. The guard can also handle the ball, is a good defender, and a team first player. Last year he was a great complimentary player for the Mustangs, but this season he will be one of their go to seniors. High academics.
Dominic Adduci (St. Charles East)
Adduci suffered a season ending injury that sidelined him for the AAU season. Because of this he is flying under the radar. The St. Charles East product is a tough guard that is best attacking the defense strong off the bounce. He draws contact and gets to the line. Adduci also runs the pick and roll pretty well.
