South Elgin 2016 point guard Matty Smith had a good run on the circuit with the Illinois Wolves 15U during July. Smith is a strong guard that has pretty good athleticism. The power combo guard is always in attack mode whether it is scoring or passing.
His handles are solid helping him get in the lane where he can finish with his strength. The sophomore’s jump shot is also an asset that he can use to score especially from 15-18 feet.
Smith plays with a high IQ and is a plus passer moving the ball in the half court. In transition he pushes it and gets his teammates involved. The sophomore is a pressure defender at the top of the key and rebounds great for a young guard.
How has he seen his game progress during the summer?
“Over the last four months I have been working on my jump shot and point guard skills. Get people open and create for the offense.”
Smith broke down what he feels the strengths are in his game.
“I am an athletic guard that can get to the rim. I like to distribute the ball and get my teammates good looks.”
This sophomore will be one to track in the 2016 class
