The Pekin Holiday Tournament will have many of the top teams from central Illinois including several intriguing prospects. It will run from December 27 to December 29.
The top seed is Washington who features top 10 senior Alec Peters. The Valpo commit is making a serious run at Mr. Basketball with the numbers he has been putting up early in the season. He can shoot it from deep and also score on the interior. Northwestern commit Nathan Taphorn is also one of the best shooters in the nation. He will lead the host Pekin into the tournament. Taphorn is one of the top small forwards in the state.
There will be a few underclassmen to keep an eye on in this tournament. One is Springfield Lanphier point guard Larry Austin. The 2014 point guard is one of the highest recruited guards in the state with high major offers. Plainfield East sophomore shooting guard Aaron Jordan is a smooth scoring wing that is starting to see his recruiting stock rise after a strong summer.
It will be a big tournament for a pair of senior point guards in Limestone’s Hank Mathews and Richwoods’ Preston Wells. Both are solid floor generals that are still available.
