Class of 2015 Morton small forward Weisnar Perez has had a good start to his sophomore year. Perez is a thick-bodied forward that does a little bit of everything. One thing he is good at is getting to the foul line at a high rate. He also is a very good rebounder as he aggressively goes after the boards. He had 17 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 blocks in the game we recently saw. The sophomore spoke with us after about how his season is going and playing with his senior brother Waller Perez.
“It is going good. I am playing with my brother and connecting real good. He has been finding me a lot and throwing dimes to me. I find him and we have a good connection on the court.”
Perez was one of the main big men on the Illinois Wolves 15U squad last summer. What are some areas he has improved since then?
“I have gotten stronger from lifting. My post game has gotten better. I need to keep working on my shot. Overall I have gotten a lot more athletic.”
The sophomore further broke down what he likes to do on the floor.
“I am a slashing type of guy. An energy three man. Rebounding is one of the most important parts of my game. It all starts with defense for me.”
He updated us on what is going on in the early stages of his recruitment.
“I just got a got a couple letters from Rice. UIC and Wright State are some others.”
