Sean O'Mara Talks Visits, Recruiting

Benet Academy junior center Sean O’Mara ranks as one of the state’s top post players in the class of 2014.  The skilled center has excellent footwork and is a great passer out of the post.  We caught up with him after a recent game at the National Guard High School Hoops Showdown where he went up against his AAU teammate and fellow 2014 big man Nick Czarnowski.

“It was fun getting back out there after him.  We see each other every day in the summer obviously playing on the same team.  We know each other’s tendencies and know what we are good and bad at.  It is tough.  We are tough when we go after each other.  There are no hard feelings in the paint between either of us.  We will kill each other in the paint and then be best friends the next day.  It is always a fun experience.”

In the game he passed the ball very well and had several points in transition where he beat his opponents down the floor.

“Yeah that is definitely something I work on especially in AAU.  Our coach kills us if we don’t run the floor.  That is something that bigs have to do.  I think tonight I got the best of (Czarnowski) on that end.”

He updated us on recent developments in his recruitment.

“I visited Dayton and saw a game.  I visited Xavier for the second time and watched them play.  They were both good visits.  I am going to Iowa State in two weeks.  I am letting them focus on their season and I’ll focus on my season and we will see where it goes this summer.”

O’Mara discussed his visit to Xavier and what he was able to see about their program.

“It was cool.  They played La Salle and beat them by about 10.  I was in the locker room before the game and after the game.  I heard their coaches talking to them and got to see how they react with the players.  I obviously got to see them during the game and see how they handle good situations, bad situations, and what’s going on throughout the game.  I think they did a real nice job and I liked it there a lot.”
